The Role Of NAACP Willow Run

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is an organization, which was formed in 1909. It was formed by Moorfield Storey, W. E. B. Du Bois and Mary White Ovington to fight for civil rights of African American citizens. It was also intended to ensure every American citizen regardless of his or her color enjoys economic, political, educational and social equality. First national office of this organization was established in 1910 within New York City. NAACP Willow Run branch works hard to ensure racial prejudices are eliminated.

People running the organization currently, have role of ensuring objectives and also goals of individuals who started organization are accomplished. This body does not only work hard to end race-based discrimination, but also ensuring African-Americans are treated fairly. In last days of 20th century, organization was enlarged to enable it handle issues concerning condition of foreign black refugees and police misconduct.

Other objectives of this body were to make sure racial discrimination barriers are eliminated through democratic means. The body was to enhance enforcement of state, local and federal laws that secure civil rights of citizens. It had objective of educating people on dangers associated racial discrimination. This body was to educate people in order to ensure they know their constitutional rights. Furthermore, it had the duty of ensuring people know their responsibilities for the good of their future.

Headquarters of the organization are located within Baltimore, Maryland. It bestows awards like image awards to African Americans, who has performed excellently in arts and also entertainment. It also offers Spingarn medals to African American who has made an outstanding achievement in any field. These awards are usually presented to the winners annually.

NAACP has regional offices located in various cities within the country. Michigan, Maryland, Texas, Georgia, California and New York are cities in which these regional offices are located. In most cases, state conferences are organized by regional offices in the concerned regions. College, local and youth chapters plan activities for individual members. NAACP is usually administered by board that is composed of 64 members. It is led by the chairperson. A person who acts as president of organization is usually chosen by the board. Chief executive of organization is also chosen by board members.

To ensure the organization executes its duties well, it has different departments. Legal department works on issues regarding discrimination within education, employment areas and in government. Education department provides services, which are intended to promote quality of education within state, local and state levels. Health division is concerned with health matters.

This organization has played an essential role in fighting for rights of minorities within society. It has worked hard to ensure African Americans are treated fairly. With the effort of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a number of states have passed anti-lynching laws.

This organization has also played an essential role in ensuring social and even racial injustices, done to African Americans are addressed. It has also worked extremely hard to meet socioeconomic and even cultural needs of disadvantaged people, who are usually African Americans. It works hard to protect rights of the concerned.
