Benefits Of Having Loafing Sheds

By Christine Miller

There are many reasons why we end up having sheds in our compounds or fields. Sometimes, we use them to store the farm tools and supplies. The article discusses specifically on loafing sheds. These are specifically made for farm animals. Horses to be exact. Often are times that we forget but the animals too need to catch a breath.

Everyone likes clean animals. You would not want to ride a horse covered in their waste. To do this, you not only have to wash the horse but the shed they sleep in too. Animal hygiene is very important and not as difficult as one may presume. The sheds need cleaning periodically, which may actually be done by a tractor to ease the workload.

With the shed, it is important that we do not keep it locked all day. We should give the horses the freedom of choice. We should not push them to stay in the shed or push them out of it. Instead, the shed should be left open in the daytime. This way, the horses can choose to go outside if they want to or stay inside if they prefer it.

Being able to breathe in fresh air is one of the greatest feelings there is. The horses too will need fresh air. This is why you will find that in the stalls, the heads and the necks of the horses are left a little exposed and the main doors are always open. This allows for the circulation of fresh air. This way the horses are not only comfortable but are also not overexerting their respiratory systems.

Fire can destroy a lot of things once it sparks and there is no way of putting it to an end. On a farm, it would cause a lot of damage especially there are dried up crops. It would even spread to the shed. However, in the event that it does, the animals could easily walk away. The chances of stopping the fire are however very good since the place is well ventilated.

It is always good news to hear that you can save money. This is because it is never enough and you may have several projects that you would like to fund. Luckily, putting up a shed, especially one made of wood is usually not that expensive. Depending on the size, it would take a maximum of three days and very minimal labour.

Apart from that, there are portable sheds. These can be bought in kits and have all the assembling instructions provided. This will automatically come in handy on a hot day. You may decide to go for a ride on a hot day or even overnight camping. The horse will need a place to rest, especially when its hot and you can always put together the shed.

A healthy horse is a happy horse. Having a shed is a way of protecting them from parasites. This is because they will be away from the heat which usually causes flies like deer flies and horse flies to bite on their skin. The bites can be irritable and once they bleed a lot more flies flock in.
