Improve Your Health With Folsom Blues Half Marathon Training

By Maria Allen

A marathon is one of those things that a lot of people would love to try, but they are afraid they are not in good enough shape to do so. While you could try to train alone to get into condition, there are also Folsom Blues Half Marathon training groups that you can join. Doing so in a group can provide you with the motivation you need to get your body ready for the big event.

There is a famous Johnny Cash song about the Folsom prison and his visit to it. The marathon is a tribute to that song. It started in 2012 and quickly caught on, and not just from Johnny Cash fans. Now it is an annual institution in the Folsom area, and people travel from far away to be a part of it.

The organizers of the race have gone to great lengths to ensure the event is fun not just for participants but also for those who want to come and cheer them up. For example, the map goes right past Lake Natoma for a scenic break. Rockabilly tunes are played throughout the course to keep with the musical theme. There is even a jaunt through the Folsom Historical District, and a band and a free beer waiting at the finish line.

Most people train for quite awhile in order to get into shape for a marathon. This is only a half marathon though, so the 13.1 miles is easy to walk if you are not ready. You can get ready though, by joining a local group that helps you set a pace and increase it until you are in shape.

There are groups for every level of fitness. From beginners who have low cardiovascular strength to those who jog regularly but would rather go faster, there is a group for everyone. Even walkers have a group, where you go from strolling to faster, more advanced paces. As your cardio conditioning improves, you can move from group to group.

There are two sessions that you can join, depending on what time of year it is. One starts in the summer and goes into the fall, while the other starts in winter and goes into the spring. This is a commitment, so you know you will see results with so many weeks and months of sessions.

Lots of people who join and then run the Folsom race find that they do not want to quit the training. You may make a lot of new friends who you still want to see each week, so you keep going. You may have also lost quite a bit of weight and are feeling great, and want to keep going to increase your strength and weight loss.

With the increase and strength and weight loss from the group comes a boost in your life beyond jogging or walking. You may find that you look better and can wear nicer clothes. You may also get a confidence boost, and the friends you make may be for life. This means that the training goes beyond a one-time thing and becomes a part of your life for good.
